About Equine Therapy

These sessions are based on "being in the moment" and experiential learning. They help clients learn more about themselves, work through difficulties, regulate their emotions and improving communication and relationships. The horses act as a resource to support therapeutic change.

Sessions may occur in the office, in the paddock, in the small yard or in the horse arena. there may be one or more horses participating in the session.

The first session may involve paperwork and collecting information, doing an assessment, discussing safety with horses and how equine therapy works. Sessions may include: horse observations; meeting with horses; grooming horses; doing activities with horses.

The model of practice used is based on The Equine Psychotherapy Institute (EPI) and uses I- Thou horse-person-ship-horse-human connections. These sessions focus on the relationship with your horse where the connection is aware, mindful and grounded in somatic, emotional and social intelligence, mutually beneficial for both horse and human (Kirby, 2020)
